XAT Selection Procedure

XLRI, Jamshedpur conducts the selection procedure of XAT after the announcement of the result. The candidates who qualify the XAT exam and meet the cutoff criterion set by respective participating institutes are qualified for the selection procedure.

After the declaration of results, each participating institute releases their cutoffs to shortlist the candidates for the selection procedure comprising of Group  Discussion (GD) or Essay Writing and Personal Interview (PI).

How XAT Participating Institutes Shortlist Candidates

  • Each participating institute has its own cutoff. Candidates who meet the criterion of a particular institute are shortlisted for the selection rounds - GD, PI and Essay Writing. Not every institute conducts all the three rounds.

  • You have to apply separately to the institutes accepting XAT scores within the deadline.

  • The participating institutes assess the candidates’ eligibility based on their XAT score, past academic records, work experience, etc.

  • Qualifying candidates are shortlisted for the next round of selection procedure.

Stages of Selection Procedure

The XAT selection procedure will comprise of the following steps:

  1. Appear for XAT: Candidates first need to appear for Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT). Hence, to be eligible for the selection procedure, you need to register and write the exam.

  2. Shortlisting of Candidates:  After the declaration of the result, participating institutes will release their cutoffs and the candidates meeting the cutoff criterion will be shortlisted.

  3. Selection Rounds: The selection rounds will be conducted for the shortlisted candidates. XLRI and its member institutes and around 150 other B-schools which accept XAT scores for their admission process will conduct GD, PI and Essay Writing as the selection rounds before announcing the final list of selected students for admissions.

  4. Final Selection: The selected candidates are offered admission to the management programmes in participating institutes.
