The CAT 2014 was conducted on 16 and 22 November, 2014 in two slots each day. The exam pattern was changed this year with both Verbal and Quant section carrying 50 questions each. Earlier, both the section was of 30 questions each. The time duration for the test was also increased to 170 minute as compared to 140 minutes last year. The CAT takers could also switch between the two sections without any restriction during the entire testing period.
Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation
Out of the 50 questions in QA-DI section, Quant had 34 questions. The questions topics were on Arithmetic, Time, Speed & Distance, Geometry, Percentage, Time and work, Interest, Profit and Loss, ratio, etc. Data Interpretation had 16 questions from 4 sets. The question topics included Venn Diagram, Bar Graph, Tables.
Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning
This section had 34 questions based on Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension passages and 16 questions based on Logical reasoning. There were 4 Reading Comprehension passages each consisting of 4 questions, making the total number of RC questions to be 16. The other questions from English Usage came from a varied topics like Parajumbles, Summary and Inference questions, Odd Sentence Out and Grammar.
There were 4 Logical Reasoning sets with 4 questions each. The topics included team formation, Blood relations, arrangements, statements-assumptions, Direction sense.
