CMAT Syllabus

AICTE does not provide any official syllabus. However, based on previous year exam trends, the pattern of the questions and syllabus of CMAT is devised.

CMAT Paper Pattern

CMAT (Common Management Admission Test) is a three-hour test. The question paper consists of four sections:

  1. Quantitative Technique
  2. Logical Reasoning
  3. Language Comprehension
  4. General Awareness

There are 25 questions in each section. Each correct answer will give you four marks and each wrong answer will give you one negative mark (negative marking).

CMAT Syllabus

Language Comprehension

This section has questions of reading comprehension, jumbled paragraphs, grammar, vocabulary and tenses. Topics include contextual usage, Comprehension of passage, Fill In the Blanks, Verbal Reasoning, Syllogisms, Jumbled paragraphs with 4 or 5 sentences, Analogies, Antonyms, Errors in word choice, Sentence correction, Punctuation, etc.

Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation

This section will test your knowledge on topics such as Statistics, Probability, Ratios, Profit & Loss and Geometry. Common topics covered under Quantitative Techniques are: Geometry, Percentages, Ratios and Proportion, Ratios, Profit & Loss, Harmonic mean, Number system, Averages, Percentages, Alligation & Mixtures, Partnership, Number Base System, Arithmetic progression, Time-Speed-Distance, Geometric Progression, Arithmetic mean, Geometric mean, Simple Interest & Compound Interest, Permutations & Combinations, Maxima & Minima Progression, Median, Mode, Set Theory, Installment Payments, Partnership, Clocks, Probability, Trigonometry, Vectors, Binomial Expansion, Venn Diagram, etc.

The questions in DI consists of Pie Charts, Tables and Bar Graphs.

Logical Reasoning

This section includes questions on arrangements (sequencing, seating), statement-conclusion, venn diagrams, true & false statements and visual reasoning. 

Common topics covered are: Critical reasoning, Assumption-Premise-Conclusion, Visual reasoning, Assertion and reasons, Statements and conclusions, identifying valid inferences , identifying Strong arguments and Weak arguments, definitely true, Statements and assumptions, Identifying Probably true, Puzzles, Family tree problem, Symbol Based problems, Matrix arrangements, Coding and decoding, etc.

General Awareness Section

This section is not restricted to any particular type of questions. Stay updated on current affairs and basic general knowledge. Common topics include Current Affairs, Constitution, Countries, Sports CE, Persons, Awards & Honors, Famous Personalities, Buildings, Languages, Animals, Inventions & Discoveries, Currencies, Indian & World Geography, Indian & World History, Democratic policy, Current Events, etc.
