Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) conducted its National Entrance Test 2014 (TISS-NET 2014) on 22 December, 2013 (Sunday) for admissions to the academic year 2014-16. The computer based test (CBT) was held in 35 centers across India. About 12,000 candidates took the test.

There were three sections:

  1. General Awareness (GA) section with 30 questions
  2. Mathematical and Logical Reasoning (LR) section with 35 questions
  3. English section with 30 questions

The test was for 100 marks and had a total 95 questions. There was no negative marking for wrong answers. The level of difficulty of the examination was slightly higher compared to last year. 

Section I - General Awareness

There were 30 questions for 1 mark each in the GA section. Questions from Geography, History, Government and Politics, Science, Awards and Art and Literature. Only 5 to 6 questions were on current affairs and a total of 15 to 16 questions were based on international affairs. 

Section II - Mathematical and Logical Reasoning

This year, LR section had many questions on modern Mathematics. Around 6 questions were on permutations and combinations and around 4 questions on set theory. There were 3 questions on geometry, including 1 on polygons and 2 on mensuration, and 7 questions on numbers and letter series.

Section III - English

There were 30 questions in this section. Out of these, 5 questions were from on reading comprehension (RC), each carrying 2 marks. Four of the questions were direct and easy while one needed inferential ability. There were 5 single and 5 double fill in the blanks, 5 analogies, 5 on choosing inappropriate words and 5 jumbled paragraphs questions.
