The CAT 2012 exam had two sections, to be done in order. The exam started on 11th October. It was open for a 20-day testing window that ended on 6th November, 2012.

Section I: Mathematical Aptitude & Data Interpretation

There were 30 questions - 9 in Data Interpretation (DI) and 11 in Quant Aptitude (QA). DI had three sets of 3 questions each. Data was given in the form of Line & Bar Graph, Table and Pie Chart.

Quantitative Ability included questions on Geometry, Numbers, P&C, Logarithm, Pipes & Cisterns, and others (sets, percentages, etc.).

Section II: English Language & Logical Reasoning

Out of 30 questions in this section, 10 were from reading comprehension (three passages), 11 from English usage and 9 from logical reasoning. Length of RC passages varied from 350 to 500 words. Questions on English usage included incorrect usage of word, fill in the blanks, para jumble, grammar usage and others. Logical reasoning had three sets of data arrangement containing 3 questions each.
